SF Pharmaceutical Cold Chain Revisits Tibet!

In March 2017, SF Cold Chain Beijing Branch received a notice from Beijing Bio-institute Biological Products Co., Ltd. (formerly known as Beijing Tiantan Biological Products Co., Ltd., hereinafter referred to as the "Bio-institute") to transport biological products. It was required to transport about 1000 pieces of biological products for national planned immunization program and a total of more than 580000 vaccines of various types in batches to the Tibet Autonomous Region CDC, and the centers for disease control and prevention in Ali District, Changdu District and Linzhi District (hereinafter referred to as the "CDCs"). In order to avoid the supply shortage of CDSs or changed properties of biological products caused by abnormal transportation temperature, the timeliness and transportation temperature of biological products should be strictly controlled.

Since the biological products to be delivered are for newborns and infants, the beneficial objects are special (newborns and infants have higher demands for timeliness), coupled with long distance, arduous road conditions and high demands for timeliness, SF Cold Chain developed a customized transportation solution that took Pharmaceutical FTL as the main service, Commercial Delivery of Pharmaceuticals as auxiliary program, and Pharmaceutical Special Delivery with aviation support, and arranged flexible resources to track the whole process, in order to deal with the unexpected events in transportation.

Pharmaceutical FTL: SF Cold Chain used the qualified pharmaceutical cold storage vans that are accredited by the GSP for pre-cooling. This program eliminates the transit and operation processes in pharmaceutical distribution hub. The goods will be stored at 2-8℃ throughout the whole delivery process, and will be transported directly to Tibet CDC.

Commercial Delivery of Pharmaceuticals: This product is used to distribute Bio-institute’s goods to the CDCs in Ali District, Changdu District and Linzhi District, and is used as an auxiliary transportation program.

Pharmaceutical Special Delivery: Because severe landslide blocked the road from Lhasa to Ali District and Changdu District, the vehicles could not move forward, SF Cold Chain Beijing Branch immediately adjusted its distribution plan: used the local air transport resources in Lhasa, and used pharmaceutical-dedicated cold storage boxes for air transport. It immediately made a backup contingency plan, and ensured that the biological products were stored at the required temperature without stopping heat supply in any case: because the Lhasa local airport flights were canceled frequently, after SF Cold Chain sent the vaccines into the airport, its cold storage vans still waited outside the airport, once the flight was canceled, they would withdraw the goods at the first time, and temporarily stored them in the cold storage vans or the cold storage warehouse of a CDC in the autonomous region.

The biological products of Bio-institute transported by SF Cold Chain were biological products for national planned immunization program. In the Tibet Autonomous Region, which has many restrictions in traffic, health and medical conditions, these batches of biological products were especially important for newborns in the Tibet Autonomous Region. For Bio-institute and SF Cold Chain, these biological products for Tibet are not just simple products, but also the social responsibility shared by the two parties!

By helping the Bio-institute to fulfill its social responsibility, SF Cold Chain underwent many trials when fulfilling the delivery tasks, how to overcome the difficulties on the way to Tibet is not a key concern of SF Cold Chain any more. SF Cold Chain’s new tasks will be how to use its own advantageous service resources and use product portfolios to provide customers with all-round pharmaceutical supply chain logistics services, how to make the special geographical area no longer be of no value and interest for pharmaceutical production and operation enterprises, and how to effectively guarantee the supply of pharmaceutical products all over China.
