  • The 2015 Summer Universiade, officially known as the XXVIII Summer Universiade was held from July 3rd to July 14th 2015 in Gwangju, South Korea. This Universiade also saw a record number of participants since its inception 50 years ago.

     

    The Universiade is the academic equivalent of the Olympics where only undergraduates or fresh graduates (no more than two years ago) are eligible for participation. These participants must also be within the age range of 17 to 28 years old.

     

    The logo of the 2015 Summer Universiade is the "Wings of Light". With its unique 'U' letter shape resembling the various Universities participating in the Games. Together with its outspread wings, the logo represents the passionate athletes competing against all odds, the dynamism of the sport, the participating countries from around the world and Gwangju's vision to achieve global recognition and admiration. The overlapping light symbolises the harmony and friendship among the world’s youth especially amongst university student athlete in the Universiade. The official mascot is an angel of light called Nuribi. It is a symbol of the bridge of communication amongst the world’s youth. The concept of this Universiade is EPIC, standing for Eco-friendliness, Peace, IT and Culture.
